Kolkata Police is one of the police forces of West Bengal. The other is the West Bengal Police. They have 91 police stations, and they work under the Law Enforcement and the Crime Prevention. Posts Under Kolkata Police

There are five police posts under Kolkata Police, including Sub-Inspector, Lady Sub-Inspector, Sergeant, Constable, and Lady Constable. Their duties and selection processes are different.

  1. Sub-Inspector: Those candidates who are aiming for the post of sub-inspector should fit in this post. This stage has both written exams and physical tests. This post has 2 years of basic and practical training at Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy, West Bengal and at other units.
  2. Lady Sub-Inspector: This post also has 2 years of basic and practical training at Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy, West Bengal and at other units.
  3. Sergeant: This post is under Sub-Inspector. They have 2 years of training in the same unit.
  4. Constable: Those candidates who are eligible and aspirants for the constable post should fit in this post. This post has basic training of 6 months in Howrah.
  5. Lady Constable: Aspirant female candidates who are eligible and willing to apply for the lady constable post should do so. They must attend a six-month basic training program in Howrah.

Examination Process for Kolkata Police

Kolkata Police has a scheduled selection process including written exams, medical efficiency tests and personality tests. Below, we discuss the examination process in brief.

Kolkata Police SI Exam Process

All male and female graduates are eligible to apply. SI Exam has five stages. Including,

  1. Preliminary Examination: The Prelim Exam will be in an OMR sheet and has only MCQ-type questions. The question paper will be in two languages, Bengali and English. There will be a negative marking of 1/4.

    5. Personality Test: A limited person who will pass in the final combined competitive exam, selected for the personality test merit list. This is a 30-number exam in which, pass mark is 08.  An ability test of Bengali Speaking will be in this stage.

Those who pass all these exams will be in Kolkata Police for an SI post.

Kolkata Police Constable Exam Process

The constable exam process is the same as the SI exam process but has a few differences in marks and exam duration. Females can also apply for this post as a Lady Constable.

    5. Interview: Those who pass the previous exam will be selected for the interview. The interview will be of 15 marks, including general awareness, and speaking ability in Bengali.

   6. Verification of Character and Antecedents: The Authority will check the documents of those selected candidates.

   7. Medical Examination: State Government sends those selected candidate to hospitals for their physical and mental health test so, they can join with a good position.

Eligibility Criteria for Kolkata Police

Kolkata Police has some eligibility criteria for their posts. We discuss those below. Kolkata Police publish their notification before the application process, that candidates can check their height and chest measurement before applying.

Kolkata Police SI Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit:

Those who apply for the SI post must be aged between 20 and 27 years.

  • ST/SC has 5 years’ age relaxation
  • OBC has 3 years age relaxation
  • Transgender 3 years’ relaxation
  • Candidates from the Kolkata Police Department such as: SC/ST and OBC have 5 and 3 years of age relaxation

Education Qualification:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university.
  • Candidates should speak, write, and read in Bengali.

Nationality:

  • Candidates should be Indian.

Kolkata Police Constable Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit:

  • Those who apply for the SI post must be aged between 18 and 30 years.
  • OBC and SC\ST have 3 years and 5 years of age relaxation.

Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have passed the Madhyamik Examination from WBBSE.

Nationality:

  • Candidates should be Indian.

Kolkata Police Exam Application Process

SI Exam Fee

Go to the direct portal of Kolkata Police and fill up the form with current photos and updated documents, then pay the fee.

  • For All Categories, the fee is 270. The application fee is 250 Rupees, and the processing fee is 20 Rupees.
  • For ST/SC, there will be no application fee, only 20 Rupees for payment.

Constable Exam Fee

  • For All Categories, the fee is 170. The application fee is 150 Rupees, and the processing fee is 20 Rupees.
  • For ST/SC, there will be no application fee, only 20 Rupees for payment.

  • Freshly recruited Constables’ salary is level 3, with a basic pay of Rs. 22,700. Then, after 5 years of promotion constables’ stage is called  Hawaldar, payment of level 4 is Rs. 25,500. After that, the stage is SI.
