One of the biggest attractions of NTPC recruitment is the salary and job security it offers. The salary is as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.
RRB NTPC positions are classified into two categories: Graduate Posts and Undergraduate Posts. Let us examine the titles of the positions within each category and their corresponding initial remuneration (initial monthly RRB NTPC salary according to the 7th CPC):
The benefits and privileges for all RRB NTPC Graduate and Undergraduate positions are enumerated below:
In addition to basic pay, all NTPC recruitment selected candidates receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), medical benefits, and pension under the National Pension System (NPS).
After clearing the NTPC recruitment and joining service, employees get regular promotions based on seniority and departmental exams. A Station Master, for instance, can be promoted to Assistant Station Superintendent and then to Station Superintendent over the years. A Goods Train Manager can progress to the Senior Section Engineer level through internal promotions. The job also offers transfer options across India, government quarters at many postings, and subsidised railway travel for employees and their families.
Prepare a proper timetable and divide your study hours between all three subjects — General Awareness, Mathematics, and Reasoning. Do not ignore any one section since all three are equally important.
For General Awareness, read NCERT books from Class 6 to 10 for History, Geography, and Civics. Use a standard general knowledge book like Lucent’s GK for additional facts. Keep up with current affairs by reading a newspaper or following a monthly current affairs magazine.
For Mathematics, practice is the key. Focus on topics like percentage, time and work, time and distance, profit and loss, and simplification. These topics carry maximum weightage and are moderately difficult.

For Reasoning, practice series, coding-decoding, analogies, and puzzle-based questions regularly. Speed and accuracy both matter in this section.
Solve at least 10 previous year question papers of RRB NTPC. This will help you understand the difficulty level, frequently asked topics, and the time management strategy required for the actual exam.
Attempt mock tests regularly, especially in the last 2 months before the exam. Analyse your mistakes after each test and revise those topics.
