What is UGC-NET?

UGC-NET (National Eligibility Test) is conducted by NTA on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is the gateway for Indian nationals to qualify for three key academic pathways:

  • Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor
  • Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.
  • Ph.D. admission only

This cycle covers 85 subjects, conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

UGC NET New Notification June 2026

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official UGC NET June 2026 notification on 29 April 2026. This notification contains all the important details regarding the upcoming examination, including eligibility criteria, subject list, application process, fee structure, exam schedule, and other essential instructions for candidates.

How to apply — step by step

Step 1: Visit the NTA NET official portal. Applications in any other mode will NOT be accepted.
Step 2: Register using the Meri Pehchan single sign-on service (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) for a seamless login experience.
Step 3: Fill in your personal, academic, and subject details carefully. No changes are allowed after final submission.
Step 4: Use Aadhaar verification while completing the form — this speeds up exam-centre registration and JRF processing.
Step 5: Ensure your registered email address and mobile number belong to you or your parent/guardian, as all NTA communication will come through these.
Step 6: Pay the required fee by 20 May 2026 via Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
Step 7: Submit only one application. Multiple applications from the same candidate will lead to disqualification.

Correction window — don’t miss it

Made a mistake in your application? NTA provides a correction window from 22 May to 24 May 2026 (up to 11:50 PM). This is your only chance to fix errors, so use it wisely. After this window closes, no further changes will be accepted under any circumstances.

Important instructions for all candidates

Read the complete Information Bulletin available on the NTA website before filling out the form. Candidates not complying with instructions will be summarily disqualified.

  • Only online applications are accepted — no offline or postal forms.
  • Each candidate can submit only one application form.
  • The exam centre, date, and shift will be as indicated on the Admit Card.
  • Admit cards will be available to download by 15 June 2026.
  • The exam is conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode.
