The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board conducts an examination to recruit constables and SIs in their department. Posts Under West Bengal Police Recruitment Board

The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board, in short WBPRB, was established in 2011 by the Government of West Bengal. The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board conducts various examinations to recruit candidates for the following posts. Exams are conducted according to their vacancies. 

  1. Constable Recruitment Exam: Those candidates who are eligible and aspire to the constable post should fit in this post.
  2. WB Police SI Recruitment Exam: Those candidates who are aiming for the post of sub-inspector should fit in this post. This stage has both written exams and physical tests.
  3. Lady Constable Exam: The female candidates who are eligible and willing for the lady constable post should apply for this post.

West Bengal Police Examination Process 2025

There are three posts under West Bengal Police. These are Constable, SI, and Lady Constable. Now, the examination process will be discussed in length:

Exam Process for WB Police Constable

There are four stages in the WBPRB examination process. First, a written test will be conducted by the board. Then three stages, including the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and the interview.

 WB Police Written Exam:

The written exam will be on an OMR sheet and in an MCQ pattern. Two languages, Bengali and English language will be set for the exam. The exam will be 1 hour long, and candidates have to answer 85 questions. Each question carries 1 mark. A negative marking of ¼ of the total marks will be deducted from the marks. The candidates who qualified in the written exam will be selected for the Physical Measurement Test stage.

 WB Police Physical Measurement Test (PMT)

The next stage of the written exam is the Physical Measurement Test. Qualified candidates in the written exam will be selected for the PMT section. Here is a chart of West Bengal police height and weight measurements for male and female candidates.

WB Police Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Qualified candidates in the written exam will be selected for the Physical Efficiency Test. Those candidates who are qualified as per the following section in the PET section will be called for an interview.

If the candidates pass all the exams till the Physical Efficiency Test, they will be called for an Interview. If they pass in the interview stage, they will be selected.

WB Police SI Examination Process

There are seven stages in the WBPRB examination process. First, the Preliminary Exam then a Physical Measurement Test (PMT),  Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Final Combined Competitive Exam and Personality Test.

    1. Preliminary Examination:

A prelim exam will be taken. Those who will qualify, go to the next step. If candidates pass in the Preliminary exam, they will be in the Physical Measurement Test stage.

    2. Physical Measurement Test (PMT):

Qualified candidates in the written exam will be selected for the PMT section. If candidates pass in the Preliminary exam, they will be in the Physical Efficiency Test stage.

      3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

If candidates pass in PMT and PET stages, they will be allowed to take this exam. This has three papers.

     5. Personality Test:

A limited number of candidates who pass all the exams will be present in this exam of 30 marks.

  • The pass mark is 08 on the Personality Test.
  • If one candidate fails this exam, will be disqualified. Their number counts stopped in the previous exam.
  • Those who will not pass the Personality Test, do not qualify for the Merit list.

     6. Document Verification: 

Selected candidates’ Documents will be verified to ensure authenticity. The verification process is taken by the West Bengal Police main authority. Bengal Police Authority will only accept the updated documents which is valid in India.

     7. Medical Examination:

There is a medical test about candidates’ health. The West Bengal Police Authority conducts this test. Four stages will be arranged.

  • Pre-Medical Tests:
    • Candidates should pass these medical tests, including knock knee checking, flat foot, squint eyes, and varicose veins,
    • The minimum vision required is 6/6, with or without glasses.
    • Colour-blind candidates do not have any chance of selection.
  • Additional Medical Tests:
    • The medical examination includes a chest X-ray and other tests specified by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal.
  •  Physical Fitness and Health:
    • Selected candidates must be in good mental and physical health, and they must be free from any physical malformation or disability likely to hinder training and duty performance as a police officer.
  •  Fitness Certificate:
    • Whoever passes all tests and examinations, the authority will give them a certificate.

Eligibility Criteria for West Bengal Police

West Bengal Police has some eligibility criteria for this constable post, including candidates’ age limit, nationalism. We discuss this below. The West Bengal Police publish a notification before the application process, that candidates can check their height and chest measurement before applying.

WB Police Constable Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit: The minimum age is 18, and the maximum limit is 30 for both male constables and lady constables.

Educational Qualification for WB Police Constable:

Education Qualification:

Applied candidates must have passed from the WBBSE board or any other valuable board in India. 

Must know the Bengali language. (This is not for permanent residents of the sub-hill region of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts)

Nationality Criteria:

Candidates must be Indian Citizens and have all the vital documents.

Candidates who are not Indian Citizens but are permanently in India must have all documents authorised by the Indian Government.

No previous years’ experience is required.

WB SI Eligibility Criteria

The West Bengal Police has some eligibility criteria for the SI post also. But, there ere some changes in SI post about age limit. Here, we discuss those in below.

WB Police SI Age Limit:

  • The minimum age limit is 20, and the maximum is 30.
  • The upper age limit for ST/SC is extended for 5 years, and OBC is 3 Years. 
  • 35 years age limit is for Departmental candidates of West Bengal Police.

WB Police Selection Process

West Bengal Police have their own selection process. How they select candidates for different posts. There are different vacancies and different selection processes. SI post has two exams, a prelim and a main written exam, but Constable has only one objective-type written exam. We are discussing this below:

Selection Process for WBP Constable

The WBP Constable selection process will be done in four parts, including a written exam, Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical efficiency Test (PET), and then an Interview round. West Bengal Police Lady Constable’s selection process is the same as Constable.

West Bengal Police Vacancy for Constable

  • According to 2024, WBP announced that the WBP constable vacancy is 11,749.
  • The vacancy for male constables is 8212.
  • For female constables, the vacancy is 3537.

Application Process of WBP Constable

West Bengal Police has two application processes in the recruitment method. Candidates can apply for these two posts, SI and Constable of the West Bengal Police, online and offline. But in the offline application, candidates must pay the fee in online mode.

Candidates can apply for the post through some stages.

  • They should go to the official website of West Bengal Police,
  • Then they will have to fill up the form,
  • After document verification, they have to pay the fee.

WB Police Exam Date 2025

West Bengal Police exam date has not yet been announced. The West Bengal police admit card for these exams has also not yet been published for 2025. The admit card will be published soon and candidates can download their admit card from the West Bengal Police official website.

WB Police Constable Offline Apply

Candidates can apply through the deposit application or processing fees in the post office using the “India Post Challan Form”. 

Or, Candidates can pay the fees through the United Bank of India (UBI).

WB Police Constable Application Fee

  • West Bengal Police has defined the exam fee for all categories in West Bengal as 170 Rpees. (150 Rupees is for the application fee, and 20 Rupees is for the processing fee).
  • For West Bengal ST/SC, the fee is only 20 Rupees for the processing fee only.

WBP SI Application Fee

  • West Bengal Police has defined the exam fee for all categories in West Bengal as 270 Rpees. (250 Rupees is for the application fee, and 20 Rupees is for the processing fee).
  • For West Bengal ST/SC, the fee is only 20 Rupees for the processing fee only.

WB Police Vacancy for Constable

  • According to 2024, WBP announced that the WBP constable vacancy is 1131.
  • The vacancy for male constables is 883.
  • For female constables, the vacancy is 248.

  • A WB Police Constable will receive 22,700 to 58,500/- Rupees in hand before the probation period.
  • Their probation period is for 2 years. If they make those two years successful, they also receive the perks and allowances.

West Bengal Police Salary for SI

  • The salary range is between Rs 32,100 and Rs 82,900 for the WB Police SI.
  • Candidates receive their perks and allowance after their probation period ends. Their allowances are medical, travel, house rent, child education and pension.
